Announcements & Updates from UIC's Office of Graduate Admissions.
Add/Drop Deadline Fall 2011
Welcome new and returning students!
As many of you are aware, classes for the 2011-2012 school year are set to begin on August 22nd. With the start of classes also begins the short time in which students are able to add or drop classes for the fall term.
Students who wish to add or drop classes on their fall schedule need to do so before the 10 day Add/Drop Deadline on Friday, September 2nd. This is the only time in which classes can be added to student schedules. Although classes can be dropped up until the tenth week of the term, this is the only time in which classes can be dropped and not appear on academic transcripts later.
Changes to student schedules can be made online by using Student Self Service. Students should use the Enterprise ID and Password that was created when first registering.
Again, the Add/Drop Deadline for the fall 2011 is Friday, September 2nd.
More information on the 10 Week Drop Policy can be found on the Office of Admissions and Records website.
Best of luck in the 2011-2012 school year!

2010 Holiday Break
To celebrate the upcoming holidays, the Graduate Admissions Office will be closed between Christmas Eve and New Year's Day.
The Graduate Admissions Office will be closed December 24 thru January 2.
During the break, Admissions Officers will not be able to answer telephone or e-mail inquiries, so it is important for applicants and students to remain patient when the office reopens on January 3 as this is our busiest time of year.
~HAPPY HOLIDAYS!~
Sending Mail In One Packet
At this time of year, the incoming mail volume of our office begins to increase dramatically. Students frequently write in to ask us the best ways to arrange delivery of their credentials, particularly students who reside overseas. There are two specific recurring questions that I'll address in this post:
Thanksgiving
Please note that our office will be closed Thursday, November 25th and Friday, November 26th for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Have a great holiday!

Protecting Your Application with Accurate Information
With the graduate application peak season quickly approaching, I’d like to stress the importance of protecting your application by double-checking it for any errors.
One of the realities of the admissions process is that your application is only as thorough as the information you provide. In order to help us help you, it’s crucial that the details you include are as accurate and complete as possible. An application can hit a number of roadblocks due to typographical errors, most of which are the result of simple mistakes.

Domestic Application Fee Increase
Effective today, August 2nd, the application fee required for domestic graduate applicants has been increased to $60. With this change, the application fee for all graduate degree programs, as well as non-degree and certificates, is now $60.
This change will not be implemented retroactively, so if you're domestic and you applied before today (8/2/2010) you will still be held to the previous $50 fee requirement. Anyone applying today and going forward will be requested the new fee.
Attention Conditional Admits for Fall 2010:
If you are currently admitted under a “conditional” status for the fall 2010 semester it means the Office of Admissions is still in need of documents from you in order to complete your file. Your admit status would have been clearly stated in your official admit letter. This status will not hinder your ability to register for the fall 2010 semester; however, a hold will be placed on your account starting 09/04/2010 if we are still missing documents from you. When spring 2011 registration begins in October you will not be able to register unless the Admissions Office has received ALL necessary documents.
To check to see your admit status or to see if OAR is still missing any documents from you please log into http://www.uic.edu/depts/oar/grad/apply_online_grad.html using the ID and password you created during the on-line application process. Once you have logged in click “fall 2010” (in blue under “Processed Applications”) to view your application checklist and status. Any documents that we are currently requesting will be posted under the “Requirements” section and your admission status will be listed next to the “Decision” column. Please make sure to log into your checklist and submit any necessary documents as soon as possible to enable a smooth registration process for the spring 2011 semester. As always please feel free to contact the Office of Graduate Admissions at (312) 996-4350 with any questions and an Admissions Officer will be happy to assist you.
Thank you and have a great fall semester!!!!
Spring 2011 International Deadline
The Spring 2011 International Application Deadline is quickly approaching! If you are an international applicant seeking admittance for the spring term, please submit an application by July 15, 2010.
Not all programs at UIC admit to the spring term. Please review your prospective program website for more information regarding admit terms.
More information about the application process can be found on the Graduate College or Admissions website.
I have been "recommended for admission." What does this mean?
While your academic department cannot officially admit you to the university, they can recommend you for admission. This just means that the department is making a recommendation to the Graduate College that you be admitted. Your admission must then be approved by the Graduate College before a decision can be placed on your file.*
Following your recommendation, you can expect to be notified of your decision within a few weeks via postal mail. Keep in mind it can take longer during peak processing times.
Thank you for your patience!
Last Call For Fall 2010 Domestic Applications
The domestic Graduate Application Deadline for the Fall 2010 term is May 15th. The Graduate College application is available on our webpage (http://www.uic.edu/depts/oar/grad/apply_grad_degree.html) and can be initiated at any time up through the 15th. If your program of choice is not available, that is most likely because it had a prior deadline or uses a separate, non-Graduate College application process. Please refer the 'Step 2' on the webpage listed above in order to evaluate such a situation.
Graduate Housing at UIC
If you have already been admitted to UIC for the Fall 2010 term and need a place to live, NOW is the time to start looking at Campus Housing! Campus Housing at UIC offers several types of living styles, including special housing for graduate students.
Summer 2010 Nondegree & Certificate Deadlines
The Graduate College application deadlines for the Summer 2010 nondegree and certificate programs are right around the corner. The deadlines are as follows:
Nondegree - April 15
Certificate - April 15
(IBHE & Campus,
Domestic & Int'l)
Please submit your application by the posted deadlines if you wish to be considered for the summer term.
Account Holds
Have you noticed a hold on your account?
A hold is placed on student accounts when issues need to be resolved on various parts of campus. There are a number of holds that can be placed on accounts to prevent registration, etc., so it is important to learn what type of hold is on your account and to contact that department/office directly to get the issue taken care of.
2009 Holiday Break
To celebrate the upcoming holidays, the Graduate Admissions Office will be closed between Christmas Eve and New Year's.
The Graduate Admissions Office will be closed December 24 thru January 3.
During the break, Admissions Officers will not be able to answer telephone or e-mail inquiries, so it is important for students to remain patient when the office reopens on January 4 as this is our busiest time of year.
